Arm Lift in Alpharetta, GA

Feel Strong, Supported, and Beautiful with Plastic Surgeon Dr. Stephanie Farber

Renewing the appearance of the upper arms can help you achieve a more sculpted look and boost your confidence. While the upper arms can be difficult to improve with diet and exercise alone, an arm lift can address skin in the upper arms that is loose or sagging due to aging, genetics, sun damage, or weight loss. An arm lift, or brachioplasty, in Alpharetta, GA, can help remove excess skin and fat from the upper arms, resulting in a more toned and polished appearance.

Only you can decide what beauty feels and looks like for you. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stephanie Farber understands the impact plastic surgery can have. She honors the varied beauty ideals of her patients and uses her artistic talents and meticulous surgical skills to turn her patients’ visions into reality. While the surgical results speak for themselves, Dr. Farber believes true beauty comes from confidence—and that’s what she aims to help every patient rediscover.

We want your confidence and happiness to outshine even the most beautiful surgical result.

What Is an Arm Lift?

Brachioplasty, commonly referred to as arm lift surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat and skin to reshape the upper arms and achieve a more toned appearance. During this procedure, Dr. Farber will create well-concealed incisions on the inside of the upper arms to excise extra skin and tissue. Once Dr. Farber restores your upper arms, the results are visible immediately. To improve the overall shape of the arms and deliver an optimal outcome, Dr. Farber may pair arm lift surgery with liposuction or skin tightening treatments.

Preparing for Your Arm Lift Consultation

One of the best ways to prepare for your brachioplasty consultation in Atlanta, GA, is to get excited about the life-changing experience you are about to have. It is helpful to review your specific goals and articulate how you want to look and who you want to be after your arm lift. For example, you could say things like:

  • I want to wear sleeveless or short-sleeved clothing while feeling like I look toned and amazing.
  • I want my clothing to fit better and feel more comfortable.
  • I want to feel stronger, look fit, and see better results from my exercise efforts.
  • I want to have greater strength and more confidence.

Your possibilities are endless! What are you most excited to feel, wear, or do after your arm lift?

Preparing for Your Arm Lift in Atlanta, GA

  • Stay positive and get excited! Loving your results starts before you get to the surgical center.
  • Make sure you are hydrated by drinking plenty of water the day before your surgery.
  • Fill all of your prescription medications and have them ready for when you get home.
  • Make sure you have nothing to eat or drink after midnight on the night before your surgery.
  • Shower and wash your body with an antibacterial soap.
  • Do not wear makeup, lotions, skincare products, or deodorants to your surgery.
  • Come dressed in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that will be easy to put on after surgery. Do not wear jewelry or contact lenses to your surgery.
  • Complete necessary medical tests, such as routine bloodwork or appointments with your primary care provider, to ensure you are healthy enough for surgery.
  • Prepare healthy, balanced meals ahead of time so that you can maintain a well-balanced diet high in protein during your recovery.
  • Arrange for help around the house and with child or pet care.
  • Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin or herbal supplements that can increase bleeding risk.

Complementary Procedures

An arm lift can be a standalone procedure or part of a larger treatment plan. Dr. Farber will only perform a combination of procedures that she knows can be performed safely and will give you the best result. During your consultation, Dr. Farber may discuss your opportunity to combine your arm lift with liposuction, thigh lift, tummy tuck, skin tightening, or other body-contouring procedures that may help you achieve your ideal physique.

Arm Lift Procedure Overview

On the day of your arm lift in Atlanta, GA, you will be escorted to a private room where you will be prepared for surgery. Once you’re ready, Dr. Farber will sit down with you to give you another opportunity to express your goals and priorities so that you can go into surgery feeling confident that she understands your vision and will execute it. She will thoughtfully mark your upper arms for surgery and confirm every detail with you.

Once you are comfortably sedated and prepped in the operating room, Dr. Farber will make an incision on your upper arm to be as inconspicuous as possible, according to the customized plan developed during your consultation. For an upper arm lift, the incision typically stretches from the elbow to the underarm; however, during your consultation with Dr. Farber, she may recommend an alternate incision pattern based on your anatomy. Using this incision, Dr. Farber will remove excess skin and fat to reshape the upper arms and create a slimmer, smoother appearance.

During surgery, Dr. Farber will administer a long-acting numbing agent to make your recovery more comfortable. She will then place a long-lasting surgical dressing designed to decrease skin tension, reducing the amount of visible scarring. Before you are discharged, Dr. Farber will fit you with a compression dressing to support your newly sculpted arms.

As soon as your arm lift is completed, you will be taken to a private recovery room where you will wake up to friendly faces cheering you on as you get your first glimpse at your new arms. Before you are released to go home, you will feel excited and supported, knowing that Dr. Farber and her team will be supporting you throughout your recovery.

What to Expect from Your Arm Lift Recovery

Dr. Farber uses a rapid recovery protocol that helps patients recover quickly while minimizing the need for narcotic pain medications. She utilizes several medications to reduce pain in the hope that you will experience a manageable amount of pain while reducing narcotic side effects. Generally, patients take a week or two off work to rest and recover and begin feeling like themselves again within a week and back to their normal routines within a month.

Tips for a Smooth Arm Lift Recovery
  • Enjoy the immediacy of your arm lift results!
  • Your surgical dressing will stay in place for 2 to 3 weeks, and you will be able to shower shortly after surgery. Less maintenance at home means you have more time to focus on resting, relaxation, and self-care.
  • You should wear your compression sleeves at all times during recovery, except when laundering or showering, to provide support.
  • Avoid heavy lifting until Dr. Farber clears you.
  • Prioritize a balanced, nutritious diet to make sure your body has everything it needs to heal.
  • Take light, gentle walks to improve blood flow.
  • Arrange for help around the house and with any pet or childcare while you recover.

If you have any questions or concerns about your brachioplasty recovery, please don’t hesitate to call the office at (470) 961-9950. We are available at all hours to answer your questions.

When Will I See My Arm Lift Results?

While you may notice an immediate difference, you will be able to see and enjoy your results more as the swelling goes down over the next 4 to 6 weeks following your surgery. Between 3 and 6 months, most swelling will have largely disappeared, and the scar will have begun to fade. It may take a year or more for your scar to mature and blend with your natural skin tone.

Alpharetta, GA, Arm Lift FAQs with Dr. Stephanie Farber

How should I prepare for my arm lift consultation? Do I need to lose weight?

The best way to prepare for a consultation for any procedure is to have a clear idea of your goals for surgery, which will help us make the best plan together. Also, it is important to be in good health, eat a diet high in protein, exercise regularly, and be close to a weight that you would be comfortable and happy maintaining for the rest of your life. All of this helps you be in optimal shape for surgery!

An arm lift is a body-contouring procedure rather than a weight loss solution; however, many people have an easier time exercising after surgery because they have less discomfort and feel more confident overall. This confidence can sometimes accelerate your weight loss and toning efforts.

You will arrive at the surgery center on the day of surgery to complete all the preoperative preparations. While this is underway, I will come to see you, review markings, confirm your surgical plan, and answer any final questions. Usually, we both feel even more excited for surgery after we see each other that day! We will head back to the operating room and will wake up in the blink of an eye once your surgery is over. After waking up in the recovery room, you will get up to walk and change prior to going home.

Often, I prefer to use drains because they make the result safe, predictable, and beautiful. The length of time you will have drains depends on many factors, including how much tissue was removed, whether you had liposuction, and how much protein you get in your diet. Usually, drains will only be in for a few weeks or less, and they will prevent problems during recovery and make the results long-lasting.

I only use absorbable sutures that are underneath the skin, so you should never even see your sutures. I also use a dressing that stays on until the incisions are healed, so you will not have to perform any dressing changes either.

Swelling can last varying amounts of time depending on many factors. In general, swelling starts to subside after about 2 to 3 weeks. After about 6 weeks, most of the swelling will have dissipated, but the residual swelling will continue to subside for a few more months.

Liposuction can safely and strategically be combined with an arm lift. Some patients choose to have liposuction on other areas or other body contouring procedures, such as a body lift, thigh lift, tummy tuck, or breast procedure. I am always careful to remain within the safe limits for how much can be performed at one time.

I recommend walking and light activity immediately following an arm lift. You should wait to do any heavy lifting that requires straining or any exercise that elevates your heart rate or blood pressure until at least 4 to 6 weeks after surgery but use caution to avoid overexertion.

I recommend having an extra set of hands for at least the first 2 weeks after surgery as you will not be able to lift more than 10 to 15 pounds for several weeks. The most important thing is to not do any lifting that requires straining. If your child is gentle, you can hold your child a few days after surgery, but it is best to wait for 3 to 4 weeks before actually lifting your child. As a mom myself, I know this is hard, but I also know that a week or two goes by in the blink of an eye with our little ones, and it will be worth it in the end!
